The Woman Behind Eastern Accents

Happy #InternationalWomensDay!

With our upcoming Celerie Kemble line and our ongoing #EACelebratesWomen series, this is a special year for us to be celebrating the international day of women. Celerie Kemble is our first female licensed designer, and we've been celebrating by honoring some of the Women in Design who have inspired us.

But today we wanted to do something a little bit different and introduce you to the woman who is the backbone of our company: Siw Tatargil, our co-owner who founded Eastern Accents alongside her husband Ridvan over 30 years ago.

She grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, where as early as the 8th grade she dreamed of opening her own home textiles store. She moved to New York City in the 1980s, where she met Ridvan, who was trading traditional Oriental carpets.

And the rest is history - from selling Turkish kilims to making kilim pillows to manufacturing a range of decorative pillows, high-end bedding, and fine linens.

Asked what she likes most about the business, Siw says: "I love that there are so many aspects to manufacturing. One day is never the same as the next. I love seeing beautiful products being made and am in awe of the artisans that we are so lucky to have on board. They are truly amazing."
